Blountstown Multi-Use Greenway

Project Date:  Multi-Year ProjectPathway_and_Sign

Project Location:  Blountstown, Calhoun County, Florida

Project Description:

Located in the northwest quadrant of the City of Blountstown and winding for approximately 4 miles, the greenway trail spans from the Apalachicola River on the southeast to Sam Adkins Park on the northwest.  Portions of the trail follow the former Marianna and Blountstown Railroad which served the area from 1909 to 1972.  Melvin Engineering was part of the Planning and Development, Environmental Assessments, Grants Administration, Right of Way Acquisition coordination with the Florida Department of Transportation, and Construction Engineering Inspection.

The City of Blountstown celebrated the grand opening of The Blountstown Multi-Use Greenway in March of 2007.  Hailed as a joint effort between citizens and community advocates, along with local, regional, and State officials, the multi-use recreational facility represents years of planning, design, and multi-phase construction.  The trail was designed to connect existing educational, recreational, and historical points of interest.  As a destination, the trail has a positive economic impact on the local economy as many users from outside of the area come to visit and enjoy the natural beauty as well as the historical assets located along the trail.  Funded in part by the Florida Department of Transportation with Enhancement Grant funds and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Recreational Development Assistance program, Melvin Engineering's Planning and Development, Right of Way Acquisition, and Grants Administration helped the project become a reality.
